Cast Me To Hell: A Horror Movie Podcast

Our Monster Movie Season concludes with 2020s reimagining of The Invisible Man.
Written and directed by modern horror master Leigh Whannell, The Invisible Man reinvents the iconic character as a narcissistic tech billionaire and stars Elizabeth Moss as his victim. Featuring a great modernisation of a classic character and the exploration of domestic abuse, manipulation, control and gaslighting, 2020s The Invisible Man plays it quiet and creepy with its lingering shots and stretched out moments of silence.
But how does this reimagining stack up compared to the Universal classic?

Our monster movie season continues with 1933's The Invisible Man!
Loosely adapting H.G Wells novel of the same name, The Invisible Man stars Claude Rains as the titular villain in a film that is equal parts mind-blowing special effects, classic monster movie horror and unintentional hilarity as an invisible naked man wreaks havoc and hijinks.
We discuss some differences and similarities to the novel, the special effects and the iconic character that is The Invisible Man

Curry Barker's directorial debut Obsession has just released in cinemas and it seems to be blowing up all over the internet.
In a classic tale of 'be careful what you wish for', Obsession sees a lovesick man's wish backfire. Featuring a truly phenomenal performance from Inde Navarrette, Obsession promises creepy scenes, black humour and some pretty squeamish moments.
But does Obsession live up to the hype? How is the horror and is this one going to be love-it-or-hate-it?

Straight from the cinema, the boys bring you their spoiler free review of Curry Barker's Obsession.
Proving that you should always be careful what you wish for, Obsession follows a lovesick man who makes a last ditch wish that throws his love life on its head. It's a bit of a slow burn that's as humorous as it is creepy, and balances some interesting themes of codependency with some gory good times.
But is Obsession worth watching? Does the premise have enough legs to last the run time, and is Obsession somewhat of an acquired taste?

This week the boys take a trip to the beginning of the 2010s as they look at the often maligned and forgotten The Wolfman.
Largely adapting the original story but blending in a bit more action and gothic horror vibes, 2010s The Wolfman features a star-studded cast comprised of Benicio Del Toro, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt and Mr Hugo Weaving (Mor-dor) and Rick Baker returning to the werewolf genre for some special effects.
But why did such a star-studded cast result in a film that was pretty hated on upon release? Does The Wolfman hold up today?
Join us as we discussed the modernisation of the original material, the development hell and the strange tonal mismatch as our Monster Movie Season continues.

It's a full moon this week as the boys continue their Monster Movie Season with a 1940s classic in The Wolf Man.
Featuring a star-studded line up of Lon Chaney Jr, Bela Lugosi and Claude Rains, The Wolf Man delivers some full moon frights, some 1940s gender stereotypes and some scenes that lead the boys on some x-rated tangents.
But how does the film stack up nearly eighty years later? Is this just bark or does it still have a bite

Monster Movie season officially begins with 1932's Universal Monster Movie The Mummy!
The boys take a trip back in time as we discuss an early monster movie and one of the first on-screen iterations of the legendary Mummy. Featuring Boris Karloff as the titular villian and a heap of early horror tropes, The Mummy frightened audiences and paved the way for many iconic horrors that came after it.
But how does it stack up almost 100 years later? Can the boys stop viewing it through a modern lens? Is it a product of its time or a timeless classic?

This week the boys bring you their full spoiler free review of Lee Cronin's The Mummy.
After bringing The Evil Dead back to the big screen with Evil Dead Rise, Lee Cronin takes a spin at modernising an iconic monster with his take on everyone's favourite sarcophagus dweller. Gone are the bandages and slow-shuffling zombie and instead we get an interesting take on a possession film with a whole heap of grotesque body horror to boot.
But how does Lee Cronin's The Mummy stack up? Is it a bold new vision or does it retread old ground?

Straight from the cinema, the boys bring you their spoiler free review of Lee Cronin's The Mummy. After the success of Evil Dead Rise, Lee Cronin turns his hand to modernising a classic universal monster movie.
Telling the story of a missing girl being discovered eight years later in a sarcophagus, Lee Cronin's The Mummy features a blend of slow burn investigation, possession tropes and a healthy dose of Evil Dead gore.
But how does the film stack up? Does it suffer from tonal whiplash or is this one ride that's worth the run time? Does it feel like a fresh take on an old classic, or is this one dry husk of a movie?
